BACKGROUND
Last decade had been an eye opener for the people who follow history of Science. The west has accepted the superiority of Yoga and Ayurveda as branches of science with proven results. Good amount of interest and research is done on foreign shores and the number of patents submitted is a proof for this. One can understand the poor state of research and interest in our country, when some foreign company applies for patents on what our ancient Rishis and ancestors have evolved. They worked for the benefit of human kind. It is imperative to ensure that we keep our research institutes vibrant with relevant subjects and keep the tradition alive. The research in Samskrit in our universities is limited to literature and it needs to be oriented towards Applied Sciences of contemporary relevance. The world is looking eastward and we must strengthen our research institutes.

It is a well established fact that Samskrit literature contains innumerable scientific texts, in a variety of fields including Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Medicine etc. But due to various reasons, today, there is a big gap between Samskrit Education and modern scientific community. Samskrit scholars do not know Science and Scientists do not know Samskrit. There is an urgent need to bridge this gap.

There is a need to access and research traditional knowledge hidden in the ancient texts of Ayurveda, Agriculture, Energy Conservation. Due to unbroken civilization for tens of thousands of years, Samskrit has answers to many contemporary challenges like Global Warming. Also it has wealth of experience in ensuring sustainable growth and the effect on environment due to the urban developments, massive agriculture and pollution of water and air.

Challenges

• Major Challenges are;
• 1. No common platform for Scientists and Samskrit Scholars.
• 2. Lack of co-ordination between multiple agencies
• 3. Science graduates do not study Samskrit, Samskrit students do not study science.
• 4. Lack of strategic approach in Samskrit Institutions.
